The leading centre for the fight against cancer

We offer you a fast, complete and personalised treatment
Hospitales Universitarios San Roque combines technology and precision medicine to “trace a personalised therapeutic itinerary” and provide comprehensive care for cancer patients and their families.
“HUSR’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Canary Islands has the most complete technological platform for the diagnosis, surgical treatment and care of cancer, even in the most complex cases. All available resources are organised around providing comprehensive care and support for the patient and their families"
A qualified medical team focused on excellence, speed of care, a unique technological capacity, research and personalised support throughout the whole process are the main pillars on which the only Cancer Centre in the Canary Islands is based.
*If you have cancer, go ahead and request a consultation with our oncologist. Multidisciplinary care involves a range of specialists who evaluate cases in multidisciplinary tumour committees, teams of specialist surgeons, diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, pathological anatomy, molecular pathology, together with oncologists, gynaecologists, urologists, pneumologists and psychologists, among others. And thanks to the compehensive perspective of the team, an organised therapeutic itinerary is created for each patient, which is then supervised and followed up by a "tumour committee".
* Advanced technology is available to our patients for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. “A diagnosis is made by our diagnostic imaging service using state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging, scanners, advanced mammography and all the necessary radiological imaging tests required for a diagnosis. In addition to the nuclear medicine service, which allows us to use PET-CT scans, bone scintigraphy, SPECT and a series of other techniques that allow us to determine the extent of the tumour and help us to decide what type of treatment each patient needs. As for treatments, we have technological equipment that ensures high-precision medicine including a linear accelerator for Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), with Robotic table radiotherapy. In addition, thanks to the image-guided radiotherapy technology (IGRT), which offers great precision, ExacTrac, we can perform radiosurgery treatments obtaining excellent results and saving time and shortening the sessions of patients," says Prof. Pedro C Lara, Director of the Cancer Centre.
Hospitales Universitarios San Roque is one of the few private healthcare centres in Spain to have a comprehensive interventional oncology platform, which includes intraoperative radiotherapy and brachytherapy. In both cases, radiation is administered from inside the patient, either in the area of the tumour removed during surgery (intraoperative) or close to the area of the tumour site (brachytherapy).
*Targeted therapies for cancer: in many cases molecular individualism of tumours for systemic treatments can replace classical chemotherapy with more effective and less toxic treatments,” explains the professor.
*Oncological Hyperthermia: In the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Canary Islands, a novel therapy for treating cancer through heat is now available. Oncological hyperthermia improves the outcomes of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, with no significant side effects. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis in sessions of approximately 1 hour and is particularly indicated for the treatment of advanced tumours.
- Support and assistance throughout the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, the focus is on the patient, their families and humanising the whole process. For this purpose, HUSR has assembled a team of professionals from several specialties such as psychology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, aesthetic medicine, oncology and nutrition, amongst others. The work carry out by the Service of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Oncological Aesthetic Medicine is worth mentioning, as it helps patients feel better and recover sooner, given that oncological treatments can generate temporary or definitive changes in their image, which affects the patients’ self-esteem.
