Digestive System

The specialty of Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine that deals with diseases that affect the digestive tract and associated glandular organs, such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, anus, liver, biliary tract and pancreas; as well as the impact that digestive diseases have on the rest of the human organism and, conversely, the impact that diseases in other parts of the body have on the digestive system. Its purpose is to prevent, diagnose and treat digestive diseases.

This specialty treats:

  • Patients with infectious disease, systemic autoimmune disease and vascular risk.
  • Any multiple organ dysfunction requiring an integrated approach.
  • Clinical care of patients in the palliative stage of disease.
  • Caring for patients in case of emergency or when urgent care is required.
  • Medical care for surgical patients.
  • Helping patients with rare diseases that do not fall under any particular specialty.

All of this is carried out on three levels:

  1. Participating directly in adult primary care at our Outpatient Clinic.
  2. Dealing with moderately complex problems that are not resolved at the first leve.
  3. Looking after complex cases that are not resolved at the second level.
