The Pharmacy Unit meets the pharmacotherapeutic needs of patients and medical professionals of the hospital. The team selects, acquires, controls and dispenses medication, providing information about it and about activities aimed at achieving the appropriate, safe and cost-effective use of medicines and medical products, for the benefit of patients treated in the hospital and their sphere of influence.

Hence this service covers the following activities, among others:

  • It supplies the hospital with medicines and health products.
  • It has an individualized system of medicine dispensation via a unit dose for hospitalised patients.
  • It prepares cytostatic drugs in a vertical laminar flow cabinet for administering to oncology and haematology patients in the day unit.
  • It provides pharmaceutical care to oncology and haematology patients.
  • It provides information on medication and boasts a pharmacovigilance system for the entire hospital staff.
  • It takes care of prescriptions of foreign medicines for hospitalized and/or outpatients.
  • It dispenses medicines prescribed by doctors from the centre to outpatients. Some of these medicines can only be delivered by the hospital pharmacy due to their specific characteristics or the need for a special monitoring of patients. In addition, the chemists provide information on treatments: dose, route of administration, conservation and side effects, and they promote the following of treatments.
