Aesthetic , Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Plastic Surgery is a surgical specialty that deals with correcting any congenital process, acquired, tumorous or simply involutional that may require repair or replacement or affect the shape and/or function of the body. Its techniques are based on transplanting and mobilizing tissues via grafts and flaps or even implants of inert material.

Reconstructive Plastic Surgery aims to restore or improve physical function and appearance in injuries caused by accidents and burns, in diseases and tumours of the skin, in supporting tissues and in congenital anomalies, mainly of the face, hands and genitalia.

On the other hand, Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery deals with generally healthy patients and its aim is to correct aesthetic alterations to improve the patient’s facial and body harmony and repair the effects of age. This has a positive impact on the patient’s emotional stability, improving their quality of life through professional or romantic relationships.

Both Cosmetic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery are included in the field of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Today, cosmetic surgery is no longer synonymous with large scars, long postoperative care, painful recoveries and unknown results, but instead is now known for less invasive procedures, small and invisible cuts and small sutures, thanks to specific glues that reduce the postoperative time needed to recover and provide greater safety and more natural-looking results.

“Reshaping the silhouette, which in surgical terms is called body contouring, while still being a complex surgical procedure that requires not only great precision and professionalism from the specialist but also a great sense of proportion, requires a hospital stay of no more than two days".

Thanks to highly innovative methods, it is now possible, in a single surgical procedure, to selectively and definitively remove excess fat, and reuse such fat by distributing it in those parts of the body where it is lacking, thus obtaining a more harmonious silhouette.

At San Roque University Hospitals, our Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery services apply the latest techniques to tackle:

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation and remodelling:

Resorbable: a new generation of free and cross-linked hyaluronic acid for the treatment of fine, medium and deep wrinkles, as well as for volume augmentation of the cheeks, lips, cheekbones and chin.

Botox: To treat frontal, supraciliary and periorbital wrinkles as well as wrinkles in the masseter and neck platysma muscle. It is also used as a treatment for a "gummy smile".

Biorestructuring – Biorevitalising: to restore glow, firmness and elasticity to the skin of the face, neck, neckline and hands.

Nanofat: this is a procedure used in regenerative medicine for the regeneration of superficial tissues or for skin rejuvenation by using autologous adipose tissue. It can be used to treat, for instance: superficial wrinkles and furrows, enlarged pores, acne scars, areas damaged by radiotherapy, ulcers and skin dyschromias of the face, neck, neckline and hands. The application of Nanofat Transfer for hair restoration in cases of involutional and androgenic alopecia is very novel.

Microfat: It is used for moderately and selectively volumising and mildly regenerating the face through an injection into delicate areas: cheeks, temples, nose, upper brow region, lips, mid/deep nasolabial and labiomental fold, dark under-eye circles and hands. This procedure offers a real alternative to fillers and bio revitalisers as it offers natural, soft and long-lasting results, with no adverse reactions thanks to the use of autologous tissues.

Rollgenera: to improve hydration, firmness, glow and elasticity of the face, neck and neckline.

Reconstructive Plastic Surgery aims to restore or improve the function or physical appearance of injuries caused by accidents and burns, diseases or tumors on the skin or supporting tissues and congenital abnormalities, mainly of the face, hands and genitals.

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, meanwhile, is used to treat patients who are generally in good health and it's objective is to correct deviations from aesthetic standards with the aim of making the face and body look more harmonious or reducing the visible signs of aging.   This has impacts emotional stability, thus improving quality of life through professional and personal relationships.

Both Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery are included in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.  Aesthetic Surgery-- which does not exist as such in our country-- is performed in order to improve normal body structures with the intention of increasing the patient's attractiveness and self-esteem, and it is not included in the catalogue of services offered by Social Security.

Reconstructive Surgery is performed on the abnormal body structures, caused by congenital, developmental or growth problems, traumatisms, infections, tumors or disease.  It is performed, above all, in order to improve function, although it may also be performed to improve physical appearance.  Reconstructive Surgery is included in the catalogue of services offered by Social Security.
