Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine is a specialty that assumes full responsibility for providing comprehensive care for adults in a hospital setting. The hospital environment includes hospitalization areas, outpatient clinics and patients treated in the emergency room.
Internal Medicine
Internists receive general and comprehensive training, which makes them very versatility and allows them to adapt to changing health care needs. Thanks to this general vision, the internist is in a particularly good position to intervene in diseases or processes that affect several organs or systems simultaneously, as well as in cases involving patients with multiple conditions.
At Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, our services basically cover three areas: 1) participating directly in adult primary care within the context of our Outpatient Clinic; 2) looking after problems of intermediate complexity not resolved at the first level from the hospital ward; and 3) looking after complex cases that are not resolved in the second level.
With these starting points, our Internal Medicine Services encompass:
- Patients with infectious disease, systemic autoimmune disease and vascular risk.
- Any multiple organ dysfunction requiring an integrated approach.
- Clinical care of patients in the palliative stage of disease.
- Looking after patients with emergencies or requiring urgent care.
- Medical care for surgical patients.
- Developing new areas to study and care for patients with rare diseases without a well-defined specialty.
- Specialized consultations for various pathologies (lipids, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease...).
